Website Design Package: Small Business

With small businesses and personal blogs in mind this website design package sets you up to take the reigns and manage your site going forwards. Using the WordPress content management system I can help you create a striking online face for your business that is easy for you to add to and edit when you need to.

“WordPress is the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day. It started as just a blogging system, but has evolved to be used as a full content management system through the thousands of plugins, widgets and themes available.”

So what does this mean for you? Well, basically that using the WordPress system I can create a gorgeous and functional website that is mobile ready and most importantly, easy for you to manage going forwards.

As you are reading this you are seeing WordPress in action. Along with my own website design, here is another site I built using WordPress

The website design package is outlined below. Additionally we will need a few meetings:

  1. To discuss your project and set deadlines.
  2. For me to present my website design plans/suggestions.
  3. To show you the completed website, give you a short tutorial on how to use WordPress and address any required revisions.

Here is some detailed information about exactly what you can expect from me…

If you have already purchased your domain and hosting once I have the details I can install and setup WordPress enabling you to have online “back-office” functionality to your site. If you are yet to purchase your domain and/or hosting for your website I can recommend reputable companies with whom I have had first hand experience. I can also help advise on the kind of hosting package required to run WordPress.

A WordPress Theme is a collection of files that work together to produce the styling and layout for a website. These files are called template files. A Theme modifies the way the site is displayed, without modifying the underlying WordPress software.

A Child Theme inherits the functionality and styling of another theme. It is a way of customising an existing WordPress theme without losing the ability to upgrade that theme.

If two people use the same theme without any alterations the result would be two very similar looking websites. To ensure your website is aligned with your brand I create a Child Theme and modify template files and CSS code providing you with a uniquely styled website.

Not only will your site look great and function brilliantly on a computer, it will shine on tablet and mobile devices as well. No annoying having to zoom in on bits of text, or fiddly buttons, your mobile audience will love you!

I will style and layout up to six pages (more if you need them). I resize and reformat images you supply to me to ensure they display well and load quickly. I can recommend photo libraries for images and can design any graphics or icons required. I don’t write content or provide photographs, however I can advise on how to best edit content for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

Most visitors will expect a menu to help them navigate around your website.

Its important that your website is recognisable as part of your brand so a customised header often includes your logo. I will design a unique header that visitors will recognise as soon as they land on your site.

If you want to regularly post articles about your business, or you are planning a personal blog then having this integrated into your site is a feature that works seamlessly with WordPress. It is a very easy platform to use to add blog posts, receive and respond to comments and share your content through social media.

If you use or plan to use any social media, like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for instance, I can include links from your site to those feeds. Above and to the right you can see a “link” to my Instagram feed for example. Additionally, buttons can be added to your site to make it simple for visitors to share posts from your blogs on their own social media, which in-turn generates new awareness of your business/blog.

We can start by looking at what you need your site to do. Most sites have an email linked Contact Form for visitors to use if they have a question. Additionally, a Search Tool is great if you have a lot of content on your site, or an Archive menu for historic blogs posts. Perhaps you would like a Gallery of images related to your business or blog, or an Image Slider to greet visitors on the homepage of your site.

From a behind-the-scenes perspective I can include SEO and Website Statistics functionality for you to explore too. Once we have discussed your needs I can tailor the site’s functionality to meet your requirements.

Part of the site handover will include a simple WordPress tutorial, here I will guide you around the system, show you how to add or amend content and use any of the installed functionality. In addition I can provide links to tutorials and articles to help you grow your site further if required.
